Police Arrests 6 Drug Peddlers, Seizes Contraband Substances in Multiple Areas

Srinagar, November 29:In a sustained effort to combat the growing drug menace, local police have arrested six drug peddlers across Budgam, Ganderbal, and Sopore, recovering significant quantities of contraband substances.
In Budgam, a police team from PS Magam, conducting a Naka checking near the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Magam, intercepted two suspicious individuals carrying nylon bags. The suspects attempted to flee but were successfully apprehended. A search revealed 11 grams of a heroin-like substance and a digital weighing machine. The arrested individuals were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Parray, a resident of Hardu-Malpora Beerwah, and Aamir Farooq Wani from Arath, Budgam.
Meanwhile, at Sheikhpora Wathoora Crossing, a police team led by the SHO of PS Chadoora and I/C PP Mochewa detained a suspect carrying a nylon bag. Upon search, officers found seven sticks of a charas-like substance weighing approximately 230 grams wrapped in corn husk, along with 1.1 kilograms of semi-ground powder resembling charas. The suspect, identified as Irfan Amin Sheikh of Dooniwari, Chadoora, was arrested.
In Sopore, a police team from PS Panzalla, under the supervision of SDPO Rafiabad, apprehended two individuals at a checkpoint in Chek Gujri Rohama. During the search, 45 grams of charas-like substance and 88 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus were recovered. The suspects were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Malla and Mohammad Rafiq Hajam, both residents of Rohama, Rafiabad.
Additionally, in Ganderbal, police, acting on reliable intelligence, raided the residence of Nazir Ahmad Khan in Arhama and seized 2.9 kilograms of bhang. Khan was arrested at the scene.
All the arrested individuals have been transferred to their respective police stations and remain in custody. Cases under relevant sections of law have been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
The police have urged the public to collaborate in eradicating drug abuse and reassured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in drug-related crimes.
