Militant killings trigger violent protests in Nowgam

Srinagar, Oct 24 (KINS): Violent protests have erupted in Nowgam area of the city outskirts over the killing of unidentified militants in a overnight gun-battle by the government forces.
Groups of youth hit the streets in Soothu Kothair Bagh area of Nowgam in the city outskirts this morning when news about the killing of two unknown militants spread in the area, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. Chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the youth pelted rocks at the government forces to vent their anger against the killings.
The government forces, witnesses said lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the stone pelting youth. However the youth regrouped and continued renewed assaults on the forces.
The ding-dong battles were going on when the last reports came in. (KR)
