Traffic Partially Restored On Srinagar-Jammu Highway

Srinagar, Feb 22 (GNS): Authorities on Friday evening partially restored traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway for vehicular traffic after three days.

Prepare for the greatest experience after eating a nutritious breakfast. You will travel over some of the highest passes in the world on your adventure, and you will be greeted by ever-changing vistas of the desolate landscape. Stop at the café on Khardung-La Pass, the highest all-season motorable road in the world, and take in the scenery; you'll feel as though you're on top of the world. Upon leaving Khardung-la, the terrain changes to a white sand desert as you approach the Nubra Valley, which is home to the Nubra Sand Dunes. Visit the Diskit Monastery, the oldest and biggest monastery in Ladakh, which also contains a sizable Buddha statue, if time permits.

An official of the traffic department told GNS that landslides and shooting stones which had blocked the highway at Maroge, Anokhifall, Panthal and Mom Passi were cleared partially and the traffic was restored at around 6:30 pm.

He said that only the light motor vehicles stranded at Ramban, Chanderkote and Batote are being allowed to move on the highway.

The official said that once the landsides and the shooting stones will be cleared properly, then only the heavy motor vehicles will be allowed to move.

The official advised the people to start their journey on the national highway only after confirming the status of the road from traffic police control room in view of weather condition.

Earlier, the District Development Commissioner, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today inspected the road clearance works at Maroge, Anokhifall, Panthal and Mom Passi.

Pertinently, SSP Ramban Anita Sharma, ADC Dr. Basharat Hussain, Dy. SP Traffic Suresh Sharma and officers from Police, Army and civil administration are supervising the arrangements for stranded passengers besides monitoring road clearance and related works.

DDC directed the executing agencies to station adequate men and machinery to remove landslides instantly from the national highway to avoid traffic jamming and traffic breakdown besides ensuring traffic worthy road. (GNS)
