Stop at the café on Khardung-La Pass, the highest all-season motorable road in the world, and take in the scenery; you'll feel as though you're on top of the world. Upon leaving Khardung-la, the terrain changes to a white sand desert as you approach the Nubra Valley, which is home to the Nubra Sand Dunes. Visit the Diskit Monastery, the oldest and biggest monastery in Ladakh, which also contains a sizable Buddha statue, if time permits.

“Around 300 children were screened by a team of specialist doctors headed by DAK Spokesperson Dr Riyaz Ahmad Daga.

The team screened children for diseases, deficiencies; defects and disabilities besides checked their nutritional and immunization status,” he said.

DAK President said the Students were dewormed on spot as part of comprehensive school health programme which was launched by DAK in July 2015.

He said majority of students had infectious diseases because of poor hygiene and sanitation.

The team made students aware about the importance of personal hygiene, environmental sanitation and safe drinking water.

Students were sensitized and made aware of H1N1 influenza and were educated about measures to be taken to protect individuals and community from flu.

Free medicines were given to patients and baseline investigations were done on all the students.

Dr Nisar said in view of poverty and prevailing socio-cultural milieu, substantial number of school children suffer from malnutrition, infectious diseases, intestinal parasites, dental caries and diseases of skin, eye and ear.

“It is our duty to prevent school children from the menace of drug abuse which has jeopardized their health and well being,” he said.
