Baramulla, Apr 11 : With the Lok Sabha elections ending in Baramulla constituency, the majority of the youth here alleged politicians of failing to represent the views of youngsters.
Many young people of the north Kashmir, who were seen disinterested in politics on Thursday, told that politics is not for them and why should they vote? “We believe that politics has nothing to do with our problems and moreover this is not a fair representation of politicians in centre as well as in state,” said a group of youth who were playing cricket in Baramulla.
Many young people from different areas including Sopore, Watergam, Karlgund, Baramulla, Delina who talked feel that their vote means nothing for them as they believe that at the end of the day all politicians are the same. They feel that politicians never listen or fulfill the promises they make.
“There is no doubt that the politicians whether they are from National conference, congress, Peoples Democratic party or other party have failed to fulfill their responsibility and the promises made with the youth in the past. As a young person myself, it upsets me that I am growing up in an elected government that has not fulfilled the aspirations of young people,” A 20 year old youth from Ashipora Handwara wished anonymity told .
He further said: “Although in the past we have elected Assembly members as well as parliament members whose duty was to represent the aspirations of young people, but it is unfortunate that they never speaks for the interests of young people in centre as well as state,” he said.
Another youth Farooq Ahmad (Name changed) said that Young people and youth policy was and is never on the Government’s agenda. “I feel very strongly that all the politicians of Jammu and Kashmir in state as well as centre remain uninterested in the issues or aspirations of young people, often due to the fact that young people seem uninterested in voting,” he said.
One of the youth from Handwara who is doing his engineering wished anonymity said that the main factor I believe why young people do not vote, is that they don’t believe that politicians and politics can change anything for them and they also feel that politics is not for them. “Young people are angry with politicians and with a political process that does not represent them, so they choose to disengage from it,”
An aged person who claimed to be firm worker of National Conference said that I have always seen that most of the young people do not vote and politicians continuously let them down and fail to take their problems seriously,” he said and suggested that it is must for politicians to go where the youth are and should fulfill their demands, rather than expecting them to come.
