Traffic To Ply From Jammu To Srinagar For 2nd Day, Tomorrow Convoy Day

Traffic will continue to ply from Jammu to Srinagar for the second day on Saturday on the national highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.

Due to one-way no vehicle will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu today, a traffic police official told UNI.

There will be no civilian traffic movement due ban on the highway on Sunday when only security force convoy will ply, he said adding however, he said, civilian vehicles carrying darbar move officials will also be allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar alongwith security force convoy tomorrow.
He said Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will have to cross Jakheni Udhampur from 0800 hrs to 1400 hrs for Kashmir. Later Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed to leave from 1400 hrs, he added.

Due to ban imposed by the administration on civilian traffic movement twice in a week—Sunday and Wednesday—only security force convoy would be allowed to ply tomorrow. However, darbar move officials will also be allowed to travel in Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses and their own vehicles after proper permission, he said no other civilian will be allowed to ply on the highway. The Darbar move, seat of the government, including the office of Governor and his advisors and top bureaucrats will reopen in summer capital on May 6.

Meanwhile, only one-way traffic will continue to ply on historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu regioin. Today Kashmir bound traffic will ply on the road. However, the vehicles had to ply from Behramgalla between 0600 hrs to 1500 hrs, he said.

Only one-way traffic for LMVs will continue to ply on national highway, linking Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley. Today vehicles were allowed to ply from Minimarg in Ladakh region to Sonamarg in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal between 0700 hrs to 1000 hrs. No vehicle was allowed from opposite direction.
