‘Oreo’, a brand of cookies consumed widely across the world including Muslim-majority Kashmir, is not Halal, the company has declared on its official Twitter handle recently.
On May 11, the brand’s official handle ‘OREO Cookie’ replied to a question post by a user asking if the cookie was halal.

“Thanks for reaching out! OREO cookies are not halal,” replied OREO Cookie.
On the same day, another Twitter user Suraya Ahmed posed a similar question to which the brand replied: “Hi Suraya, OREO cookies are not certified halal in the USA or Canada.”
Hi, Muhammad! Currently, there are no Oreo products in the US and Canada which are Halal certified. We hope this helps!

On May 5, OREO replied to another user Muhammad Idris, who’d a similar query: “Hi, Muhammad! Currently, there are no Oreo products in the US and Canada which are Halal certified. We hope this helps!”
The company however did not specify what ingredients it used which made the cookie NOT HALAL.
