Army soldier killed, two others injured in ongoing Pulwama gunfight

Srinagar, May 16 : An army soldier was killed and two others were injured in an ongoing encounter with militants in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Thursday.

One militant has also been killed and his body recovered so far, a police official told.

The officer said that in the ongoing encounter three soldiers and a civilian Mohd Younis Jalal son of Jalal Ud Din Dar sustained injuries and were removed to hospitals.

The officer said that the soldiers were airlifted to army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh Srinagar where one of them namely Sandeep Kumar succumbed to injuries.

The civilian who has sustained bullet wound in his right thigh has been shifted to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.

The officer said that the encounter started after militants beleived to be three in number, fired upon a joint team of police and army while a cordon-and-search operation was going on in the Dalipora village.

The cordon was launched after credible inputs about the presence of at least three militants, two of them locals and other a foreigner.

The authorities have also imposed curfew in the town following clashes.

Meanwhile, the internet services have also been suspended in the southern district. (GNS)
