Srinagar: The release of the two former CM’s of the Jammu and Kashmir state, Omar Abdullah of National Confrence and Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP who are in custody after the abrogation of Article 370 is yet to be announced.
A senior official made it clear that any decision regarding the release of the detained leaders as a precautionary measure will depend on the opinion of thelocal administration and the situation there.
The official said, it is very difficult to say when the detained leaders will be released. He indicated that there is no hurry in the matter. Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been detained at separate guesthouses in Srinagar, while Farooq Abdullah is under house arrest. Leaders of other political parties have also been detained at the guest houses.
The state administration has not disclosed the number of leaders to be detained since August 5. Based on the estimate, the number is reported to be more than two thousand. The Government’s move is also being criticised. The case was also taken to court but the court has refused to issue any guidelines to the government in this regard. The court has asked the government to give more time.
