Snowfall disrupts air, road traffic in Kashmir Valley

Fresh snowfall across the Kashmir Valley on Friday disrupted air traffic at the Srinagar airport while the Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed for vehicular movement.

Officials at Srinagar International Airport said due to poor visibility and continuing snowfall, flights to and from the airport were again cancelled.

He said that the air traffic to the Valley remained suspended for the eighth consecutive day due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog.

Traffic department officials said it has been snowing heavily, resulted in accumulation of snow on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel on the highway and keeping the safety of travellers in mind, traffic on the highway has been halted.

He said that efforts are on to clear the highway for traffic, but operations are being hampered by continuous heavy snowfall.

Srinagar recorded minus 1.0 degree Celsius, Pahalgam minus 0.9 and Gulmarg minus 3.6 as the minimum temperatures on Friday.

Jammu city recorded 8.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 6.4, Batote minus 2.5, Banihal 0.0 and Bhaderwah minus 0.6 as the minimum temperatures.
