Tehsildar submits report before ACR; Varsity officials say already taken matter with higher ups
Srinagar, Dec 26 : The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has allegedly grabbed over 60 kanals of land around the campus in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
According to the wire service— sources within the revenue department said that 66 kanals of Kahcharai has been allegedly grabbed by the varsity without any permission from the concerned department.
The varsity as per the sources have been seeking permission for the land from the year 2005, adding that they didn’t get any permission so far, but still they have occupied the land where the varsity authorities have constructed Athlete track.
A copy of the report submitted by concerned Tehsildar before Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Pulwama reads that the varsity is intending to grab 66 kanals of land where Athlete track has been made.
The locals have also sought the intervention of the concerned authorities, demanding action in this regard. Meanwhile, Deputy Registrar IUST, Dr. Iqbal Qureshi while talking to news agency said that they have applied for permission for the land and have taken up the matter with higher ups several times.
“IUST has not taken the custody of land itself but an Athlete track has been made not only for the varsity students but for the locals as well,” he said. (KNO)
