Pulwama students complain of unhygienic quarantine centres

Shah Khalid

Pulwama April 6 (KINS): Students who have arrived from various countries and states complained of poor arrangements at quarantine centres in Pulwama district.

“There are no facilities available. The bedding has been used before. There is one washroom for 30 people,” said a student from Pulwama who is pursuing PhD at Jamia Millia Islamia University New Delhi. He arrived here on March 21 and is quarantined at a school turned quarantine centre.

Similarly, Lycuem International School Pulwama has also been turned into quarantined centre.
“There are no sanitizers, no hand soaps. Washrooms are unhygienic,” a resident of Pulwama, who is quarantined there, said. “It would be better if we are quarantined in our respective homes,” he said.

Meanwhile parents also said that their wards have complained lack of basic facilities in quarantined centers.
“We fear that our children might get infected. Our kids told us that they are not being treated well. They are being provided cold food, which is against norms,” said an aggrieved parent.

“My son is not well. He is unsafe there. If authorities are not able to accommodate them properly then we should be allowed to meet them,” a parent whose son returned from Bangladesh said.

Meanwhile, the stranded passengers who are disallowed to move beyond Lakhnpore check post have been shifted to university campus in south Kashmir, where they too complained of poor hygiene.

They said there are shabby washrooms and rooms have not been sanitised.
“Mattress are full of smell and are placed at dirty floors,” they said.(KINS)
