Srinagar, May 19: Lashing out at the National conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for opposing new domicile rules, the Bhartiya Janata Party Tuesday said, that ‘these regional parties always befool people to fill their own coffers’.

The party also termed the rules for domicile and rights given to the West Pakistan Refugees (WPR) as a historic step.

“These regional parties always played politics over every issue and their sole aim was to fill their own coffers. They never did good work for the betterment of the people,” BJP national vice-president and J&K Affairs in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna told news agency KINS over phone from New Delhi.

The BJP leader said, “NC and PDP failed their people over the past 70 years and instead played politics over every issue. They left people of J&K at the lurch and enjoyed palatial bunglows,” he said.

He said new domicile rule is a great achievement and that there was a grave injustice with the women who would marry out of Jammu and Kashmir.

“All the injustice has been done away with. Now every deserving aspirant will get a job and every one will avail benefits in government sectors. Disparity is over now,” he said.

The BJP top leader further told KINS that the Kashmiri Pandits too suffered over the past 30 years and now that their children are eligible for jobs in J&K under the new domicile law.

Khanna said that WPR refugees neither picked gun, nor threw stones and instead showed tremendous amount patience. “They were rewarded in a better and dignified way. Now they are eligible for the jobs in any sector they wish to apply,”

He said domicile policy will help J&K’s youth to apply in jobs and there would be no disparity at all. “There is a transparent system in place now and no scope for embezzlements, gobbling public money and nepotism,” he said.

The BJP leader said that J&K is on the path of everlasting development and peace and that ‘militancy too is on its last leg’. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendera Modi, J&K UTs is set to flourish and prosper in the coming years,” he said, adding that Covid dampened the spirit of massive development projects that were set to roll out in J&K this year. “But the will and mission is there and soon, J&K will see a massive development in all sectors,” Khanna added.(KINS)
