Amid COVID-19 Scare, Special Eid Arrangements in Place: DC B’la

Baramulla, May 22: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo today said that special arrangements have been put in place for the smooth celebration of forthcoming Eid ul Fitr. He said that such arrangements have been made in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic so that a fine balance is maintained between people’s convenience and lockdown advisory.

While briefing the media regarding the subject, DC said that a viable mechanism has been formulated wherein traders have been asked to work in shifts so that the risk of eventualities is mitigated.

“According to the mechanism, vegetable/fruit sellers and milkmen shall work in the morning from 7am to 9am while as the butchers from 9am to 12:30pm. Moreover, bakers and other traders selling vital items shall work from 4:00pm to 6:30pm”, DC said. He also warned that strict legal action shall be taken against erring traders, found in any kind of illegal activity like charging exorbitant rates, black marketing etc.

DC also said that about 750 service providers have been designated for the purpose who are directly connected with the people. DC said that these service providers were tested for the virus and the reports of all were found satisfactory. He added that such a move was taken in the interest of general public so that people can purchase their requisite items without any fear and hesitation.

Reiterating the commitment of providing all possible support and assistance to the poor and the needy ones, DC said that a massive drive of special ration kits distribution was announced in which about 5000 destitute families shall be covered before the festival of Eid.

Regarding the celebration of those who have been kept in quarantine, DC said that a special plan was formulated for them wherein adequate necessities shall be provided so that they can participate in the festival. He said that administration has taken sufficient initiatives for them although they cannot be comparable with those one is taking in his home.

Appealing the people to cooperate with the administration, DC urged upon them to follow all the related advisories especially maintaining social distancing and use of face masks.
