Srinagar, May 27 (KINS): At a time when doctors and policemen are at loggerheads over the back to back episodes of alleged harassment of medicos by cops, Lieutenant Governors’ security advisor B R Bhatnagar said both policemen and doctors are Covid warriors and are fighting the battle jointly.

Bhatnagar told news agency KINS over phone that there was some misunderstanding between cops and doctors at some places which has been sorted out. “Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh and Principal Secretary Health are at it,” he said.

Bhatnagar is under quarantine after his wife and son was tested positive for the Covid-19. His wife works as a doctor in New Delhi and it is believed that she transmitted the virus in a hospital there and alter gave it to her son as well.

In his message for the doctors and policemen on ground, the LG’s advisor said that the work of both is commendable. “Their coordination is very important in fight against the Covid. They are providing services to the public these challenging times and are working together in this fight,” said Bhatnagar. He, however, said whatever small issues are there that are being resolved instantly.

The LG’s advisor is asymptomatic so far. It may be recalled that over the past few days, back to back incidents of doctors being harassed and intimidated by the policemen on ground triggered a strong resentment among the doctor’s fraternity in Kashmir who also staged a series of protests in their respective hospitals.

Yesterday at the Srinagar’s lone maternity hospital—Lal Ded, at least three senior female gynecologists alleged harassment and foul language against them by the police men deployed outside the hospital when they were entering the hospital for their duties. Senior gynecologist Dr Farhat Jabeen was one among the doctors, who was allegedly subjected to ill treatment.

The doctors at the LD later staged a protest against police. Sensing trouble, a police team led by an officer distributed sweets, red roses and bouquets among the doctors at the LD hospital amid a message that “we are one against Covid 19 pandemic.”

A senior cardiologist Dr Syed Maqbool was allegedly thrashed at Hawal on Saturday and alter kept at police station Zaidbal. He had claimed that SHO concerned had threatened him that if he revealed the truth, he will be stripped of naked. Doctor was on call on that day. Similarly, CMO Bandipora’s vehicle was also stopped while he was visiting quarantine centers.

Yesterday, doctors staged a massive protest against the alleged misbehavior of police at super specialty hospital Srinagar. The IGP Kashmir took a strong note of the issue and ordered an impartial probe. (KINS)
