Gunfight rages in Sopore village

Srinagar, June 25 (KINS): A Gunfight rages between militants and security forces in Sopore village of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district at wee hours of Thursday.

Official sources told news agency KINS that a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation at Shiva village of Sopore on Wednesday night following inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter sources added.

SSP Sopore Javeed Iqbal also confirmed to KINS that exchange of fire between the joint teams and hidding militants is underway in Hardshiva Sopore.(KINS)
