SRINAGAR June 25: Around three weeks have passed since district administration Anantnag took over 20-bedded John Bishop Memorial Hospital for conduct of surgeries and treatment of COVID-19 positive pregnant ladies, not a single patient has visited the hospital so far.
On June 8, district administration Anantnag took over 20-bedded John Bishop Memorial Hospital for conduct of surgeries and treatment of covid-19 positive pregnant ladies.
Deputy Commissioner (DC), K K Sidha had said that the hospital will operate round the clock for conducting surgeries of the pregnant women testing positive for covid-19 infection.
Surprisingly, not a single patient has visited the hospital so far.
“Around 30 doctors have been sent from GMC Anantnag, CMO to John Bishop Memorial Hospital. Despite that no patient has been brought here,” an official told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
“Nodal officer and Medical Superintendent MCCH Anantnag visit here but all doctors are sitting idle,” the official said.
The DC had directed CMO Anantnag that they shall provide PPE and other surgical items needed for pregnant ladies and staff in case the Principal GMC Anantnag feels shortage of trained medical professionals at any point of time.
“All the machinery equipment in the operation threatre, labour room wards and NBCC are readily available for taking any procedure regarding delivery of pregnant ladies. However, the drugs, diet transport consumables shall be meet out as per the guidelines of JSSK to all covid positive pregnant ladies and staff during this period through MS MCCH Anantnag out of the NHM funds,” the CMO has told the DC.
Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr. Showkat Jeelani admitted no patient has been admitted at John Bishop Memorial Hospital so far.
“We have kept staff available there. But so far no patient has been referred there,” he said.
CMO Anantnag said GMC Anantnag is looking after the hospital. “We also have sent some staff there. Besides, the hospital’s own staff is also there. There are two positive pregnant ladies but they are a few months away from expected delivery time,” the CMO said.
The MCCH Anantnag was in news after death of three pregnant women. Masrat Jan wife of Riyaz Ahmad resident of Manzmoo Qazigund who died at MCCH Anantnag. Earlier, 35-year-old Ruqaya, wife of Javed Ahmad from Kharpora-Larnoo village in Kokernag died at MCCH, after delivering stillborn twins.
Her body was handed over to the family for last rites. A day after her test returned positive for coronavirus.
While Shakeela, 30, wife of Zahoor Ahmad from Salia village died allegedly due to delay in her treatment at SDH Seer. She was declared bought dead at MCCH Anantnag.
A video also went viral on social media wherein wailing family members were seen carrying her body on a trolley on the road. (KINS)
