Village Games Organized in Gurez Valley

Gurez, July 03: A Mega Village Sports Festival was organised at Dawar, Gurez from 29 June to 04 July 20. The festival consisted of Pony Race, Volleyball and Cricket Tournaments over a span of one week. 

The Traditional Pony Race was flagged off by Mrs Famida Begum, BDC Chairperson of Dawar Block on 29 June. Janab Ishtiyar Lone of Chorwan village was declared as the champion for the year 2020. Top 10 riders were awarded in a glittering award ceremony.

Volleyball Tournament was organised at Barnoi Volleyball Court from 30 June to 02 July, in which teams participated with zeal and enthusiasm. Barnoi village won the tournament in a closely contested final. The winner and runner up teams were felicitated with the prizes.

The most awaited and popular Cricket Tournament was organised at Gurez Cricket Stadium from 30 June to 04 July 20. A total of 16 teams of different villages of the valley fought their heart out to win the prestigious tournament. 

Team Royal Challengers Dawar won the tournament after winning the final of the tournament played in the morning of 04 July 2020.

The events had the audience on the edge of their seats, cheering passionately for the teams of their respective villages. 

All the events were live streamed on the Facebook page and Youtube channel of Gurez Valley. 

Awaam of the valley is extremely happy and have expressed that organisation of such games at village level provides a platform to the locals to showcase their talent.
