Drug and Food Control Organisation organises awareness programme on World Food Day

Srinagar, Oct 16 (KINS):  On World Food Day an awareness programme was organised by Commissionerate of Food and Drugs Administration J&K in which besides the officers of the Department some prominent food manufactures participated. The participants were sensitized regarding the theme of this year’s World Food Day which is “Grow, Nourish and Sustain by practising healthy food habits together”.
Speaking on the occasion Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration Shakeel ul Rehman said that current health crises which has arisen due to Corona virus pandemic has made us more conscious regarding the importance of food as a basic need to sustain life. He further said that food should not only satiate our hunger but must also fulfil the basic needs of our body. He impressed upon the regulatory staff to ensure the availability of nutritious and wholesome food to the consumers. The food manufacturers were directed to implement latest concepts of food safety which include Good manufacturing practices, Good hygienic practices, HACCP and ISO 22000. The consumers were requested to ensure daily intake of balanced diet and to discourage the consumption of foods high in salt, sugar and saturated fat. The department has ensured that during covid-19 food remains available to consumers and no soulsleeps without food.  Food packets in sufficient quantity were distributed to needy with active cooperation of respective district administrations.
