Srinagar Oct 24 (KINS): Leaders of mainstream parties who recently formed People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration Saturday gave it a formal structure with Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti its president and vice president, respectively.
Last week six mainstream parties held a meeting and formed an alliance for restoration of the special status of the erstwhile state as it existed before August 5 last year.
The meeting was held at the residence of National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and attended by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone, Peoples Movement leader Javaid Mir, CPIM leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and Awami National Conference vice-president Muzaffar Shah.
On Saturday, one more meeting was held at Mehbooba Mufti’s residence.
During the meeting it was decided that Dr Farooq Abdullah will be its president and Mehbooba Mufti-vice president.
Sajad Lone is spokesperson of Peoples Alliance and M Y Tarigami its convener. NC Member Parliament Retd Justice Hasnian Masoodi has been elected its coordinator.
After the meeting Sajad Lone as per news agency KINS said it was decided that the flag of the erstwhile J&K state will be a symbol of the group.
During the meeting it was also decided it will come up with a document to counter the lies being spread against people of J&K, he said.
After the meeting Farooq said the group is not anti-national but anti-BJP.
Senior National Conference leader and Member Parliament Retd Justice Hasnian Masoodi has said six-parties have united seeking restoration of Article 370.
“This alliance will continue unless we get August 4, 2019 position. We will continue to strive for it,” Masoodi told news agency KINS.
