NIFT Srinagar celebrates Hindi Diwas

The institute introduces special training programs for students and staff in order to promote the official language in J&K

Srinagar, Sep 14 (KINS): National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Srinagar began ‘Hindi Diwas’ celebrations on Tuesday to honour the official language of the country with great zeal and fervor.

Prepare for the greatest experience after eating a nutritious breakfast. You will travel over some of the highest passes in the world on your adventure, and you will be greeted by ever-changing vistas of the desolate landscape. Stop at the café on Khardung-La Pass, the highest all-season motorable road in the world, and take in the scenery; you'll feel as though you're on top of the world. Upon leaving Khardung-la, the terrain changes to a white sand desert as you approach the Nubra Valley, which is home to the Nubra Sand Dunes. Visit the Diskit Monastery, the oldest and biggest monastery in Ladakh, which also contains a sizable Buddha statue, if time permits.

According to statement issued to news agency KINS the event, which was attended by students, the faculty, and members of the administration, was organized as a part of the ‘Hindi week’ celebrations in the NIFT Srinagar.
On the occasion, the Director of the institute, Dr Javid Ahmad Wani, who was the chief guest of the event, announced that the institute has started short-term training in Hindi languages and translation for its students and staff in order to promote the official language and make them well-versed with it.

A well-known Hindi Professor of the country Prof Vinod Taneja was the expert at the Hindi Diwas event. Prof Taneja, who is the former head of the Hindi Department of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar addressed the participants through video conferencing.
While addressing the gathering, Prof Taneja spoke about the rich history of Hindi as a language. He shared his thoughts on the ways in which the continued existence of the Hindi language can be ensured especially at a time when English is being preferred as the medium of communication.

“The Hindi language unites everyone in India that is why it should be taught in every institute,” he said.
NIFT Director Dr. Wani opined that the Hindi language should be promoted beyond its official status.
“There is a huge scope to promote the Hindi language and train people,” he said.

He advocated the gathering to make Hindi’s usage more prevalent and make people aware of the employment opportunities that expertise in Hindi would bring along.
“At our institute, we have already started training programs for staff and students regarding Hindi. We are also planning to introduce more such programs in the future,” Dr. Wani said.

Students and staff participated in varied competitions such as recitation of Hindi poem recitation, work meaning, narration, and speeches highlighting the importance of the National language.

The participants also took a special Rajbasha oath at the event pledging that they will do whatever possible in order to promote the official language.

The event was coordinated and moderated by Ms. Ritu Singh, who works as Translation Officer at the NIFT Srinagar. She presented the relevance of Hindi in 21st century India through her speech.

Ms. Singh also read out the message from the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Sh. Piyush Goyal, MoS Ministry of Textiles, Smt.  Darshana Jardosh, Secretary Textiles, Govt of India Sh. U.P Singh and Director General, NIFT Sh Shantmanu.(KINS)
