Staff of schools, universities attend I-Day celebrations

Tricolour hoisted in Govt schools across J&K

Srinagar August 14 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir administration celebrated ‘Grand Independence Day’ in Union territory by hoisting tricolour on all government offices including government schools.

As per the circular issued by the ZEOs, teachers were asked to attend August 15 celebrations in their respective schools.

“Teachers went to their schools to attend the hoisting of the national flag. The attendance of teachers during the ceremony at educational institutions had been made mandatory,” one of the officials here in the education department told news agency KINS.

The hoisting of the national flag was also made mandatory for all government institutions.

“For last over a week, we were making all preparations for August 15 celebrations in our school. We were also told to be present on August 15 celebrations,” a teacher of a government school said.

The government had issued a circular which says, “Independence Day will be celebrated in all schools. Directions should be conveyed to all the CEOs, Principals/headmasters to hoist the national flag at all schools. Videos and photos of the function will be uploaded on google drive.”

Similarly, Kashmir University had also issued a circular where it was mentioned that the flag hoisting ceremony to be held in the University of Kashmir on Monday, the 15th of August 2021. All employees of the varsity were invited to the ceremony.

Srinagar’s Clock Tower (Ganta Ghar) in Lal Chowk was illuminated in the colours of the tricolour. Several government buildings including the civil secretariat were illuminated in the colours of the tricolor.

The main I-Day function was held at Shar-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar and was presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

It is to mention here that the Chief Secretary had asked the concerned officers that all government offices and buildings should hoist the flag on August 15.

Dr Mehta has also directed the Higher Education Department and School Education Department that all the universities, colleges, schools and other educational institutions should hoist flags and conduct various sporting, cultural and other events.
